diffuse2026
arts technology research laboratorydiffuseis a series of animated vignettes inspired by Alex Colville's paintings, developed in response to the studio theme of light and shadow. His distinctive treatment of light and shadow recalls the aesthetics of early 3D graphics, informing the project's visual direction.
Set in a post-human world, diffuse depicts animals inhabiting the remnants of human civilisation and unknowingly adopting human behaviours. The scenes unfold as footage captured by visiting observers, moving from distant views to close encounters.
Displayed on CRT monitors, the work draws on the visual language of surveillance. This framing places the animals under the gaze of both the observers within the scenes and the viewer, blurring the distinction between the familiar and the foreign.
